With the release of their Office 2010 package this week, Microsoft have also made available the downloadable upgrade version for customers who bought Office 2007 between March and September this year, which entitled them to a free upgrade to the latest release of the software.
We processed a number of upgrades this week and came across an installation error when upgrading from Office 2007 to 2010. The installation would appear to be completing, then an error message would appear stating “Internal Error 2932″. The file the installer would fail on was always “wordicon.exe”.
We later found that disabling AVG’s Identity Protection component from the software’s GUI would enable the installer to complete the upgrade without errors.
ANEW Solutions are proud to announce that we are now a Silver Level Reseller for AVG’s range of security products. We will very shortly be listed in the Reseller Locator meaning we will be able to reach a wider market which will include commercial and domestic customers.

The staff at ANEW have noticed another dangerous email in circulation, this time claiming to be from PayPal. Immediately the recipient is made uneasy with the subject line, “Urgent Notice: Paypal Limited“, and the fact that the email has been marked with High Importance (signified by the red exclamation mark that appears on the email). The body of the email then attempts to put the reader at ease, by explaining the email is being sent to “verify and protect your identity“. The full body of the email reads:
“Dear PayPal customer,
During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedure we have detected a slight error in your billing information.
This might be due to the following reasons:
1. A recent change in your personal information (ie. change of address, email address) 2. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our systems.
Please verify your information. To do this we have attached a form to this email. Please download the form and follow the instructions on your screen.
NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern browser which has javascript enabled (ex: Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera 9)
We are requesting this information to verify and protect your identity. This is in order to prevent the illegal activity of PayPal accounts.
Please do not reply to this email.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Sincerely, PayPal Security Team.
PayPal Email ID PP836l Email ID PP836”
The attachment, as mentioned in the previous post about the fake UPS email, contains a trojan that will infect your computer with viruses and leave your computer open to further threats and attacks.
If you find yourself or a colleague in a situation where the attachment has been opened and the malware has appeared on your PC (it will be titled ‘XP Internet Security 2010’ or something similar), perform no further actions on the PC; this includes attempting to close windows, click ‘OK’ buttons, open other programs, etc. Contact one of our engineers immediately and we will carry out the required tasks to remove the threat.
You may remember the post we published recently regarding the fake UPS email that carried a virus as an attachment. There has been evidence of another similar email in circulation, this time posing as a Facebook password reset confirmation. The subject line reads “Facebook Password Reset Confirmation! Support Message” and will the body contains:
“Dear user of facebook,
Because of the measures taken to provide safety to our clients, your password has been changed.
You can find your new password in attached document.
Thanks,
Your Facebook.”
The email may also be personalised and open with “Hello
If you find yourself or a colleague in a situation where the attachment has been opened and the malware has appeared on your PC (it will be titled ‘XP Internet Security 2010’ or something similar), perform no further actions on the PC; this includes attempting to close windows, click ‘OK’ buttons, open other programs, etc. Contact one of our engineers immediately and we will carry out the required tasks to remove the threat.
There has been a reccurrence of the fake ‘UPS Delivery Problem’ email appearing in email inboxes lately. If you are unaware of this issue or have not heard of its dangers, it is an email that poses itself as a message from UPS, detailing a problem with a delivery. The email address that this appears to be from will be similar to ‘package@ups.com’ or ‘manager@ups.com’ and will arrive with the subject ‘UPS Delivery Problem NR 81879’ (with the number varying from instance to instance).
The body of the email will say something along the lines of:
“Hello!
We failed to deliver postal package sent on the 14th of January in time because the addressee’s address is erroneous.
Please print out the invoice copy attached and collect the package at our department.
United Parcel Service of America.”
Importantly, there will also be an attachment labelled ‘UPS_invoice_Nr355.zip’ or something similar. This email may end up in your junk email box or may even be blocked by your anti-virus or anti-spam software, but if you do see it in your inbox (or anywhere else in your maibox), under no circumstances should you open or save the attachment as this will install a piece of malware on your PC, which is ruthlessly difficult to remove. Malware is a piece of software that poses itself as a security application that reports your PC as being infected with a host of unwanted threats – when in fact what it actually does is expose your PC up to such problems.
